Capsule Endoscopy

AI Supported Pill Camera Imaging of the Gastric System

Viewing the Gastric System from Top to Bottom

Standard endoscopic procedures such as Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy only visualise around 50% of the gastric system. There is around 4.5 metres of small bowel which is not accessible through these procedures, leaving a large area of bowel unseen, where problems may occur.

Capsule Endoscopy (Pill Camera) allows imaging of the small bowel, which is not accessible through regular gastroscopy or colonoscopy procedures, allowing more scope for identifying problems within the gastric system.

Capsule Endoscopy involves patients swallowing a capsule carrying a camera, which travels naturally through the digestive tract.  The camera sends images to a recording device that is worn by patients. The capsule is swallowed in the morning under practitioner supervision and the recording device is worn for around 8 hours and then returned to our rooms.

Gastro Diagnostic’s OMOM HD/AI capsule endoscopy system is the latest technology available in Australia. The capsule camera uses high definition images to ensure the best quality pictures are captured to give overall coverage of bowel imaging to identify areas of concern.  These images are then assessed by a specialist and a detailed report prepared.

Pill Camera is a minimally invasive procedure.  Patients need to fast prior to the procedure.  There are no/minimal risks of complication and no recovery time needed.  The capsule passes naturally through the bowel and is excreted.
